Error description

  • In Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v8.5.1.4, a remote
    search including unauthorized datasets ends up in abends U4091
    and U4039.

    Access to unauthorized datasets will generate an abend 913-38
    in SYSLOG, similar to:
    IEC150I 913-38,IFG0194E,RSE31856,STEP1,SYS00023,025E,CSPS00,
    CSPSHR.TEST.ACCESS.NONE.PDS

    If the number of 913-38 abends reaches the language environment
    (LE) ERRCOUNT
    limit, LE will terminate the threadpool server with abends U4091
    and U4039.

    Note: Setting enable.saf.check=true in rsed.envvars has no
    effect and the threadpool will still be terminated.

Local fix

  • Set ERRCOUNT to 0 in _CEE_RUNOPTS in rsed.envvars, for example
    _CEE_RUNOPTS="ALL31(ON) HEAP(32M,32K,ANYWHERE,KEEP,,)
    ERRCOUNT(0)"

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    01.In RDz, a remote search including unauthorized datasets ends
       up in abend U4091 and U4039 when the ERRCOUNT is specified
       as LE runtime option and the search thread encounters the
       913-38 errors more than the ERRCOUNT value.
    02.A dynamic allocation (SVC99) is not released against a
       dataset with System 913 abend when the JVM is running in
       64-bit mode.
    03.Rational Developer for System z (RDz) no longer supports the
       rsed.envvars variable enable.saf.check. Customers using
       version 85 or higher can use the related
       search.server.limit.errcount variable instead.

Problem conclusion

  • 01.The search thread will be canceled before the number of
       913-38 errors exceeds the ERRCOUNT value.
    02.RDz Server programs are changed so that a dynamic allocation
       could be released against a dataset with S913 abend.
    03.Rational Developer for System z (RDz) no longer supports the
       rsed.envvars variable enable.saf.check. Customers using
       version 85 or higher can use the related
       search.server.limit.errcount variable instead.
