Closed as program error.
In Rational Developer for System z (RDz), comparing two files fails when the selected data set members have single record format. As a result of this failure, compare tab is not displayed in editor, the selected files are locked and NullPointerException can be seen in the error log.
The RDz client failed to check the validity of a record format when the format was a single character, and stopped openeing the compare editor without unlocking selected resources for comparing.
The RDz client was fixed to handle single character record formats in the initialization of the compare editor, and release obtained locks when the initialization was end in failure. The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with IBM Rational Developer for System z V188.8.131.52 Fix Pack which is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2294&uid=swg27006335
