Error description

  • There are some Symbols available in the DOORS Module -- "Insert
-- Symbols" which don't have a equivalent Unicode symbol.
All such Symbols are displayed as square boxes in the DOORS
    Module Explorer window.

A more serious consequence of this behavior is that when you
have such symbols inserted in the Module and if you run the
"unicodeString" perm with the value for the "convertAllSymbols"
parameter set to "true", all these symbols would now be
displayed as square boxes even in the Object Text.

    Steps to reproduce:
    --------------------
1> Open a DOORS Module and edit Object Text -- Insert - Symbol
2> Insert any symbols from the list after the Sigma (summation)
    symbol.
3> You'd observe that though the symbol is displayed fine in the
Object Text. the corresponding display in the Module Explorer
would have this symbol as a square box.
4> Run the built in DXL sample "Convert Symbols to Unicode" with
the value for convertAllSymbols of the unicodeString set to
"true" from existing false, you'd notice that the symbols are
now displayed as square boxes even in the Object Text.

Problem conclusion

  • This behaviour is a current display limitation of DOORS and
there are no plans to change this. The documentation has been
updated to document the current behaviour.
