Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of CICS Configuration Manager. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This APAR allows CICS Configuration *
    * Manager v5.1 to operate with CICS TS *
    *                      5.2 and allows fall-back from upgrades  *
    *                      to CICS Configuration Manager v5.2.     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    1. This APAR:
       - allows the CICS Configuration Manager v5.1 server to run in
         a CICS TS 5.2 region. The Server will tolerate CICS TS 5.2,
         but not exploit CICS TS 5.2 features nor support new CICS
         TS 5.2 resource definitions or attribute changes.

       - provides fall-back compatibility services should a CICS
         Configuration Manager v5.1 Server revert from CICS TS 5.2
         to a lower release level of CICS TS, or should an upgrade
         to CICS Configuration Manager v5.2 also be reversed.

    2. This APAR is required in order to run the CICS
       Configuration Manager v5.1 Server region at CICS TS 5.2.
       However, new CICS TS 5.2 resource definition types are not
       supported. These cannot be listed, viewed or manipulated.
       Any new CICS TS 5.2 attributes applied to existing resource
       definition types will not be displayed on the online panels.

    3. In the event of a fall-back from an upgrade to CICS
       Configuration Manager v5.2, this APAR enables toleration of
       new or altered definitions, but does not provide support for
       new or changed services introduced by CICS Configuration
       Manager v5.2.
       For example:

       - Change packages containing new definition types or
         supporting new services may become unusable, require
         redefinition, or need re-application of READY or APPROVE
         states.

       - Audit reporting may not recognize new definition types
         and identify these as unknown. Online functions applied
         against these unknown definition types may be disallowed
         or fail.

       - Viewing, editing or processing of definitions with new
         attributes (including CICS Configuration Manager's own
         repository definitions) will suppress the new attributes
         from view, and services implied by new attributes will not
         be available.

       - Export files containing new definition types or attributes
         may become unusable. The recreation of the export file data
         may be required.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS Configuration Manager v5.1 is changed to tolerate a CICS TS
    5.2 environment and to allow fall-back from upgrades to CICS
    Configuration Manager v5.2.
