    Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.0.1
    
    Copying an element, PL/I or COBOL, encoded in UTF-8 from a local
    
    project in the RDz z/OS Project view' to a PDS in the Remote
    System view will show different results (codepage problem)
    depending on the method used to copy:
    . the use of Copy/Paste will preserve the accented characters
    . the use of Drag/Drop will NOT preserve the accented chars
    
    Re-creation steps:
    
    1.  Create a 'Local Project' by clicking File -? New -? Project,
    
    and selecting 'Workstation COBOL or PL/1 -? Local Project'
    2. add a member which contains accented characters (?,?,?...)
    3. in the z/OS project view, right-click that member and select
    'Copy'
    4. in the Remote System view, select a PDS, right-click and
    select 'Paste'
    5. right-click the new member and select 'Open'
    6. notice that the accents are kept
    7. in the z/OS project view, select the member and drag it to
    a PDS in the RSE view
    8. right-click the new member and select 'Open'
    9. notice that the accents are NOT kept

    Use the copy/paste method.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The RDz client did not set a file encoding of the local file to
    a resource for uploading when drag/drop operation was done.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The RDz client was fixed to set a file encoding to the resource
    for uploading.
    
    The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
    IBM Rational Developer for System z V8.5.1.5 Fix Pack which
    is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
