Error description

  • APAR Error Description:
    In Rational Developer for System z (RDz) V8.5.1.4  Renaming
    member in a large PDS file causes extremely high CPU usage.
    Customer was attempting to rename a member in a PDS of 132000
    members when they experienced the performance issue.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The RDz client requested all member names in a PDS when renaming
    a member to confirm a new name was unique in the PDS. When the
    request was made for a large PDS, it consumed high CPU and long
    time to send all name list to the client.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The RDz client was fixed to confirm the existence of a member
    with a new name in the server intead of getting all member
    names.
    
    The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
    IBM Rational Developer for System z V8.5.1.5 Fix Pack which
    is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
