APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If the nodeagent starts an application server JVM, spawned JVM
    process acquires a file handle to nodeagent's native_stderr.log
    file as well as its own, and this causes problems when client
    wants to clear nodeagent's native_stderr.log while it's down.
    
    This issue only happens on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Node Agent claiming exclusive access    *
    *                      to native_stderr.log file               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:  Apply this APAR                             *
    ****************************************************************
    The native_stderr.log file was being opened as exclusive
    write. This left application-server JVMs unable to write to
    it, as well as potentially causing logging to malfunction when
    the Node Agent was asked to restart itself.
    

Problem conclusion

  • We have changed this to shared access, which eliminates both
    problems.
    
    (The exclusive-access file mode is only an advisory on most
    operating systems. Microsoft Windows operating systems enforce
    it strictly, which exposed this erroneous setting.)
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.5.5.3.  Please refer to the
    Recommended Updates page for delivery information:
