Problem conclusion
The conversion of an OLE object to a text version allocates a block of memory and then assigns that to a different type of string that makes a copy (which is memory and time inefficient of itself) and then abandons the first allocated memory - so every single OLE conversion leaks a chunk of memory that is not released until DOORS is closed.. Changing the copy to another string management type which takes ownership of the first buffer and correctly frees it when finished makes it all work.
Temporary fix
