Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server Liberty scim-1.0 feature             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SCIM search filters that include a *
    * quotation mark are returning no *
    *                      results.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When executing a SCIM query which includes a quotation mark in
    the filter, SCIM will return incorrect or no search results.

    If a federated repository configuration has configured
    allowOpIfRepoDown="false" for the realm (this is the default
    behavior), the following may be seen:

      bash$ curl -sk -u scimuser:password
    'https://localhost:9443/ibm/api/scim/Users?filter=uid%20eq%20%22
    *\"*%22' | json_reformat
      {
          "Errors": [
              {
                  "scimType": "invalidFilter",
                  "description": "INVALID_SEARCH_EXPRESSION",
                  "code": "400"
              }
          ]
      }

    In some cases, regardless of the allowOpIfRepoDown
    configuration, the response may return an empty result, as
    below:

      bash$ curl -sk -u scimuser:password
    'https://localhost:9443/ibm/api/scim/Users?filter=uid%20eq%20%22
    *\"*%22' | json_reformat
      {
          "schemas": [
              "urn:scim:schemas:core:1.0"
          ],
          "totalResults": 0,
          "Resources": [

          ]
      }

Problem conclusion

  • SCIM and federated repositories were updated to correctly
    process quotation marks in a search filter.
