Error description

  • When upgrading to 18.0.0.3, OpenIdConnect clients might see
    the
    following error:
    CWWKS1739E: A signing key required by signature algorithm
    [RS256] was not available.
    
    followed by
    
    CWWKS1725E: The resource server failed to validate the
    access
    token because the validationEndpointUrl null was either not
    a
    valid URL or could not perform the validation.

    In Liberty 18.0.0.3, when using OpenIdConnect you may see the an
    error like the following in messages.log:

    .ibm.ws.security.openidconnect.client.jose4j.util.Jose4jUtil E
    CWWKS1737E: The OpenID Connect client [null] failed to validate
    the JSON Web Token. The cause of the error was: [CWWKS1739E: A
    signing key required by signature algorithm [RS256] was not
    available. ]

    CWWKS1725E: The resource server failed to validate the access
    token because the validationEndpointUrl null was either not a
    valid URL or could not perform the validation.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A NullPointerException in the JWKRetreiver class is causing this
    issue.  The JWKRetreiver class is updated to rectify the
    problem.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
    pack 18.0.0.4.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
    delivery information:
