Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Db2 12 for z/OS users of * * Resource Limit Facility (RLF) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * Db2 12 RLF behavior is different than * * Db2 11. In Db2 12 the changes to the * * RLF table SYSIBM.DSNRLSTxx or * * SYSIBM.DSNRLMTxx are not activated * * immediately for the next thread * * creation. In Db2 12 stopping RLF * * followed by starting RLF commands are * * necessary to activate the changes in * * the RLF table for the next thread * * creation. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** With Db2 12, the RLF tables are loaded in memory when RLF is started. The in-memory RLF tables are used for RLF functionality. When the active table DSNRLSTxx or DSNRLMTxx is updated, the in-memory RLF table is not refreshed with the updated rows. Therefore, new threads do not see the effect of the updates. For example, a new row is inserted to reactively govern a certain package, but the in-memory RLF table does not have that row thus RLF does not govern that package execution afterward.
Problem conclusion
Db2 code is enhanced to: 1. monitor update activity on the active RLF tables and automatically refresh the in-memory RLF tables. 2. allow the -START RLIMIT ID =xx command where xx is the suffix of the table currently in use (active) 3. support the SCOPE(GROUP) option on the -START RLIMIT command so that the command takes effect on all members of the data sharing group ADDITIONAL KEYWORDS: DB2RLF
