Error description
Enhancement to the REORG utility in Db2 v12. ZPARM to let REORG DISCARD or UNLOAD EXTERNAL to default to NOPAD NO.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Db2 12 for z/OS users of REORG * * TABLESPACE utility * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * Implementation of new Db2 subsystem * * parameter REORG_TS_NOPAD_DEFAULT to * * govern REORG NOPAD behavior * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** This APAR introduces a new Db2 subsystem parameter, REORG_TS_NOPAD_DEFAULT, to determine the default NOPAD behavior on REORG TABLESPACE DISCARD or REORG TABLESPACE UNLOAD EXTERNAL processing. Prior to this APAR, if user does not specify the NOPAD keyword on the REORG TABLESPACE statement, REORG would assume the default of NOPAD YES during DISCARD or UNLOAD EXTERNAL execution, which means REORG would not pad the variable length column data in the records discarded or unloaded. Otherwise, REORG would honor the user specification of the NOPAD YES|NO keyword value. With this APAR, user can now change the REORG padding behavior by setting the REORG_TS_NOPAD_DEFAULT subsystem parameter to the desired value, without specifying the NOPAD keyword in all of the REORG's statement. Note that REORG will assume the subsystem parameter value only when the NOPAD keyword is not explicitly specified by the user. The subsystem parameter also has a default value of YES, to be consistent with the current NOPAD YES default keyword settings.
Problem conclusion
Code has been modified to introduce the aforementioned subsystem parameter to govern REORG NOPAD processing.
