Error description
There are cases where even a 512 megabyte data space for Canzlog (using the TINYDS initialization parameter) is too large. This enhancement provides the capability to use a smaller data space size, which is expanded if needed.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of Tivoli NetView for z/OS V6R1 * * and above. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The main Canzlog data space, which * * defaults to a full data space size of * * 2GB and which is allocated under the * * Master Scheduler address space, * * requires much auxiliary storage * * backing. This may not be feasible for * * many smaller installations. * **************************************************************** The main Canzlog data space, which holds system and NetView messages, as well as some other information, is allocated under the Master Scheduler address space and can only be defined as a full data space size (2GB) or one-quarter of that for smaller installations (512MB). The smaller size still requires more real storage backing than some installations would like to provide. When the volume of messages is low, there should be no need for a data space size as large as 512MB.

Comments
Tivoli NetView V6R2M1 is being changed such that the main Canzlog data space can be configured to initially use only 128MB of virtual storage and to expand as needed. Two additional parameters are being added to the ones that the subsystem initialization routine DSI4LSIT recognizes: STATIC (the current implementation, which is also the default) and DYNAMIC (starting with the 128MB size and expanding when needed). An additional parameter is being added, FULLDS (which is also the default), which specifies that the full 2GB of storage will be used as the maximum, in addition to the existing parameter of TINYDS, which specifies that the 512GB size will be used as the maximum. When DYNAMIC is specified, expansion will occur (as long as there's enough room in the data space) when any V6R2M1 NetView address space's automation of messages is significantly slower than the storing of messages. When expansion is not possible, automation of messages will skip a certain set of messages, determined by a new CNMSTYLE keyword, Msg.Automation.SkipGap. A new metric called "stress level" is being introduced, which reflects the likelihood of missing automation of messages. This is a number ranging from 0 (no danger) to 5 (skipping has or will occur due to backup of automation). Skipping of automation can also be triggered by stress level, using the new CNMSTYLE keyword Msg.Automation.SkipLevel. Also, four new messages (CNM162E, CNM163I, CNM164A, and CNM165I) are being defined to notify operators of actions and status associated with this new functionality. Also, NetView manuals are being updated for this enhancement. The following summarizes the additions or changes being made. See new sample part CNMREAD3 for details. - The following sections are being added to Chapter 2, CNMSTYLE Initialization Statements, of the Tivoli NetView for z/OS V6R2M1 Administration Reference, SC27-2869-06: - A new section named MVSPARM.Msg.Automation.SkipGap is being added. - A new section named MVSPARM.Msg.Automation.SkipLevel is being added. - The following changes are being made to Chapter 2, Preparing the MVS System, in the Tivoli NetView for z/OS V6R2M1 Installation: Getting Started manual, GI11-9443-07: - Usage Note 4 in the subsection named 'IEFSSNxx' in the section named 'Updating SYS1.PARMLIB Members' is being replaced. - In the table named 'Data spaces created by the NetView program' in the section named 'Modifying the IEFUSI exit', the following changes are being made: - A new entry is being added with 'Address Space' being 'Master Scheduler'. - The second bullet (which talks about Canzlog data) in the entry of 'NetView' under the 'Address Space" column is being removed. - The example output of the LIST STATUS=CANZLOG command under the heading of CANZLOG in the description of the LIST (NCCF) command in the Tivoli NetView for z/OS Command Reference Volume 1 (A-N), SC27-2847-07 is being replaced. - The Tivoli NetView for z/OS Messages and Codes Volume 1 (AAU-DSI), GC27-2856-07, is being changed as follows: - New messages CNM162E, CNM163I, CNM164A, and CNM165I are being added. - Existing message CNM600I is being changed. - The following changes are being made to the section named 'Using and Maintaining Canzlog Data' in Chapter 12, Managing NetView Data, in the Tivoli NetView for z/OS User's Guide: NetView manual, SC27-2867-06: - A paragraph is being added to the end of the introductory text. - The bulleted list of items displayed as a result of the LIST STATUS=CANZLOG command in the subsection named 'Displaying Canzlog Data' is being replaced. - The example output of the LIST STATUS=CANZLOG command under the heading of 'Capturing Message Log Data' in Chapter 3, 'Documenting and reporting problems' of the Troubleshooting Guide, GC27-2865-04, is being replaced. The online help corresponding to the messages and command changes and additions is being changed appropriately. ×**** PE18/11/21 FIX IN ERROR. SEE APAR OA56450 FOR DESCRIPTION
