LO81493: VERY LARGE PLAIN TEXT MAIL BODY CAN CAUSE HIGH CPU USAGE
Closed as program error.
Notes Traveler must perform some special processing on plain text email bodies before they are synchronized to Apple iOS devices in order for the messages to render properly. A performance issue has been identified in one of the algorithms used to process these plain text messages and is repaired with this APAR fix. The symptom would be extremely high CPU usage on the Traveler server if one or more devices were syncing mail messages with plain text bodies > several megabytes in size. These types of messages are typically rare and are typically generated by machines instead of normal mail correspondence.
If you were experiencing this probelm prior to the APAR patch, the only know workaround is to set the following value in notes.ini on your Traveler server(s): NTS_BODY_THRESHOLD=2048000 This causes Traveler to artificially limit all mail bodies to 2MB in size.
Though not common, some e-mails have been seen to contain very large plain text message bodies which can effect server performance processing the message. These message bodies were seen at multiple MBs of plain text content.
The Notes Traveler server has been updated to process these large documents efficiently as intended.
This fix is included in Notes Traveler 8.5.3 UP2 IF7, 18.104.22.168 If7 and 9.0.1 IF6 and will be included in any future releases. See this technote for the latest maintenance infomation: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24019529
