APAR status

Error description

  • In API Connect 2018.4.1.0 when creating an account in Portal
    with more than two consecutive repeating characters in password
    it fail the authentication
    
    Steps:
    - From Portal select the "Create account" and fill in the form
    with a password with 3 consecutively characters
    - The user receives an email and using the activation link this
    error is generated in GUI "Error message
    There was an error while processing your activation. Contact
    the site administrator."
    

Local fix

  • The user created in Portal has status "blocked" and he is not
    created in APIM->catalog->consumer organizations.
    
    If you login in Portal as Admin and you go in Portal->people
    you can select the user blocked and select the option "cancel
    the selected users account". In this way you delete the user
    and then you can recreate the user with a password without 3
    consecutively characters. A new activation link will be sent
    and the user can login in Portal and is enabled in
    APIM->catalog->consumer organizations.
    

Problem summary

  • Developer Portal users attempting to use repeating characters in
    their password would have seen an error message and had to retry
    with a different password.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The Portal's password policy has been updated to match the
    password policy on API Manager so attempts to use 3 or more of
    the same characters is now caught with a more user friendly
    message so the user can easily correct and continue
    successfully.
