Error description
The IPA component of the compiler is encountering an internal error when processing a local array that is used as a parameter for a function call. The issue occurs when the -qipa=level=2 option is enabled (set by default with -O5), and the build is 64-bit (-q64). During the IPA link step, an error similar to the error below is output: $ xlc -qipa=level=2 -q64 myobj1.o myobj2.o -V export XL_CONFIG=/etc/vac.cfg.53:xlc export XL_BACKEND=/usr/vac/exe/xlCcode export XL_LINKER=/bin/ld ipa64 -link -V -qosvar=aix.5.3 -qipa=level=2 -q64 -b64 -qlargetype -b64 /lib/crt0_64.o -bpT:0x100000000 -bpD:0x110000000 myobj1.o myobj2.o -L/usr/lpp/xlC/lib/aix53 -L/usr/lib -L/usr/vac/lib -L/usr/vac/lib -lxlopt -lxlipa -lxl -lc 1500-004: (U) INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR while compiling main. Compilation ended. Contact your Service Representative and provide the following information: Internal abort. For more information visit: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21110810 1586-346 (U) An error occurred during code generation. The code generation return code was 1. $
Local fix
Avoid IPA usage. The -qipa option can be removed, or the -qnoipa option can be added.
Problem summary
