JR53458: MIME TYPE FILTER IS NOT EFFECTIVE FOR ALL FILE TYPES

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • For some documents, the MIME type is either too general or is
    not detected correctly, reducing the effectiveness of the MIME
    type filter. For example, files from Microsoft Office 2007 and
    later (.xlsx, .xlsm, .docx, etc) are detected as either
    application/octet-stream or application/x-zip-compressed in the
    browser, which is incorrect or too general.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.0.1.3 and 8.5.0.1 that
    introduces additional functionality to the product with the use
    of a server-side configuration option that allows an optional
    whitelist of file extensions to be specified in addition to the
    optional whitelist of MIME-types. Only extensions in the file
    extension list may be uploaded.

    The following example is a sample configuration of the new
    option, which you can configure in the 100Custom.xml file:

    <server>
     <!-- extension white list which specifies extensions accepted
    for -->
     <!-- upload to document list or document attachment -->
     <document-attachment-accepted-extensions>
      <!-- specifies whether to allow a document with no extension
    for upload -->
      <allow-null-extension>false</allow-null-extension>
      <!-- lists the extensions allowed for upload -->
      <extension>xlsx</extension>
      <extension>docx</extension>
     </document-attachment-accepted-extensions>
    </server>

    Note: If the whitelist of MIME-types is configured in addition
    to the whitelist of file extensions, documents that match either
    of the whitelists (MIME-types or extensions) may be uploaded.
