Error description

  • Text (.txt) file attachments lose their line formatting when
    printed using Print with Attachments

    PROBLEM:
    client's attached text files have lots of formatting - boxes,
    lines, underscores for signatures, etc. These are all laid out
    so they look "neat" in the file (and when viewed on screen in
    maximo). When they print these with the workpack using Direct
    print with Attachments (DPA) this formatting is compromised as
    the text is "moved" to accommodate page margins.

    PERFORMANCE ISSUE:
    n/a

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    create a text file that has relatively long lines and use
    characters like | and _ and - to create boxes and other
    formatting. Relatively long, as in 60 characters, or more per
    line
    log into a maximo 7.6.05
    ensure that system property mxe.report.birt.useapplet is 0
    (false)
    go to work order tracking application
    attach this text file to a work order
    view attachment in maximo, it will open in text editor and look
    exactly as it did when you created it
    use print with attachments to print this work order
    the text formatting of the attachment will be different. Long
    lines will word wrap causing the boxes and formatting you made
    to not appear the same in the output

    CURRENT ERRONEOUS RESULT:
    the text will word wrap because when we build th eworkpack the
    margins of the attachment get altered so the document no longer
    prints in the formatted manner

    EXPECTED RESULT:
    as was the case in earlier (pre 7.6.05) releases, the text file
    should print exactly hos it looks in Maximo

    ADDITIONAL INFO:
    confirmed by Dev (SM) this is a bug

    ENVIRONMENT (SYSTEM INFO):
    Maximo 7.6.05

Local fix

  • a) reformat the txt files or
    b) convert them to pdf or word format

    * Users who use Direct Print with Attachments of txt *
    * attachments.                                                 *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Direct Print with Attachments prints text file using bigger *
    * font and wide margin. Because of this less number of *
    * characters are printed in one line. Also if there are boxes *
    * etc then those will not be printed correctly. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply latest Fixpack                                         *
