Error description

  • You are using the CICS Configuration Manager plugin for the
CICS Explorer. You make a request for information which may
result in a large volume of data being returned. This could
cause the connected CICS CM Server region to go short on
storage. There currently is no method for the user to specify a
limit to the number of records returned on a request.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When a user selects a Configuration in CICS Explorer, a
retrieval request for resource definitions is sent to the CICS
region acting as the CICS Configuration Manager server. When
selecting a Configuration with a very large number of
definitions (for example by using an unfiltered request), the
server attempts to return the large data set but this might lead
to 'short on storage' conditions occurring within the CICS
region. CICS issues message DFHSM0133 due to the large storage
usage by the DHDDB storage subpool.

Problem conclusion

  • The CICS Configuration Manager plug-in for CICS Explorer has
been updated with a new preference page where users can set the
number of resources to be retrieved, i.e. the 'retrieval limit'.
The default is 10,000 but any value between 1 and the maximum
value of 500,000 can be set. This allows users to tune their
requests to avoid the SOS condition in the CM Server region.
To set this value, users should open the CICS Configuration
    Manager->Retrieval Limit preferences panel.
This fix will be made available in Version V5.2.0.3 of the CICS
Configuration Manager for z/OS plug-in for CICS Explorer.
