APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When user applies DB2 Fixpack upgrade to an existing DB2 Ptype
instance (using Manage -> Operations -> Apply Fixpack),
this Fixpack upgrade operations hangs.

Fixpack upgrade operation internally calls db2precheck command.
This command checks for pre-requisites available on the system
before applying the fixpack.  The db2precheck utility works in
user interactive mode specifically for AIX platform, so it
waits for user input (typically "yes") at all the steps of
pre-req check. This causes hang in fixpack upgrade process.

Please note :
(db2precheck utility doesn't require any user inputs on Linux
platform)

  • DB2 11.1.4 fixpack 5 upgrade hanging

Problem conclusion

  • While doing the check_db2_prereq method, it is hanging because
it waits for input to press "yes" to continue for the language
support which is now being addressed by removing it.
