IT22831: NEW INGESTED DATA MIGHT BE LINKED TO DAMAGED CHUNKS IN CLOUD CONTAINER POOLS

Error description

  • When chunk transactions are aborted on any cloud pools using the
Swift protocol or cloud pools before 7.1.7 using the S3
protocol, chunks that are already deleted as part of that
transaction are added to the SD_DEDUP_AUDIT (SDDA) table (the
table that tracks damages) because the chunks have already been
    deleted from the cloud provider.
However, the flag that needs to be set in the SD_ALL_CHUNKS
(SDAC) table to indicate damage to a chunk is not being properly
    set.
This causes, upon new ingest, the server creating links to
damaged chunks instead of the creation of a new version of the
chunk. This happens because from the perspective of the
SD_ALL_CHUNKS table, the chunk is not damaged.

This is possible when one of the following conditions is met:
     - Cloud container pools using the Swift protocol from 7.1.5 to
    current
     - Cloud container pools using the S3 protocol before the
introduction of the local staging area (cloud cache), which are
    7.1.5 and 7.1.6.

Another lower impact symptom of this APAR, is having entries in
SDDA which are not in SDAC.

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect server 7.1.5 and newer
    IBM Spectrum Protect server 8.1.x

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:

    Run following db2 statement:

db2 "select count from sd_dedup_audit sdda inner join
    sd_all_chunks sdac on sdda.id = sdac.chunkid where sdda.type=1
    and bitand(sdac.flags,cast(1 as smallint))=0"

If the result is non-zero, this APAR applies.

    Initial Impact: High

Additional Keywords: TSM, Tivoli, Storage, Manager
