APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When there is a backup for a VM and a harddrive is added to the
    VM, after subsequent backups, the VM can no longer be restored.
    
    IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments Versions Affected:
    Users of Data Protection for Hyper-V version 8.1.2 on Windows
    2012, 2012 R2 are affected if they added or replaced disk
    between backups
    also users of Data Protection for Hyper-V version 8.1.2 if they
    migrated to Windows 2016 after they added or replaced a disk
    between backups using Windows 2012, 2012 R2
    

Local fix

  • Remove the filespace for the VM and do
    a full backup after adding the new disk

Problem conclusion

  • Recovery of back up data after the new disk was added is not
    possible.  The file
    space on the IBM Spectrum Protect server must be renamed or
    deleted.
    Code is fixed to allow for additional disks to be added to a VM
    with existing back ups.
