Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Server client and API sessions fail with
    messages in the activity log that report a communication error
    between the client node and the server. This is caused by the
    client being set to connect to the performance monitor. Due to
    the way the connection for the performance monitor is handled,
    this connection interferes with the session opened with the
    server for the client/api action.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    The client error log will report,
    ANS0361I DIAG: sessSendVerb: Error sending Verb, rc: -50
    
    A client service trace will report and error with gskit:
    09:22:11.452 [001756] [300] : ..\..\common\com\gskit.cpp(2873):
    setError(): gsk_secure_soc_write returned 5: 'GSK_INVALID_STATE'
    
    If the action being taken is a DB backup the actlog may contain
    messages similar to the following:

Local fix

  • Remove or comment out the PERFMONTCPSERVERADDRESS option in the
    tsmdbmgr.opt or dsm.opt file and the run the action again.

Problem conclusion
