Error description

  • NDMP backup may fail with ANR8806E after "label libvolume"
because IBM Spectrum Protect Server does not turn off
append-only mode of the drive when dismounting a tape cartridge.
This issue may occur only when the library supports
    auto-eject.

ANR8806E Could not write volume label volume name on the tape in
    library library name.

It is expected that the server should disable append-only mode
before dismounting a tape cartridge when "label libvolume"
command finished. For example, the server works like below.

    1. label libvolume is issued
    2. check append-only mode
    3. turn on to append-only mode
    4. label libvolume is completed
    5. turn off append-only mode
    6. dismount the tape

It works as expected when the library does not support
auto-eject, but if the library supports auto-eject, the server
does not turn off append-only mode when dismounting a tape. The
next NDMP backup may fail with ANR8806E as a consequence of this
    defect.

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect Server 7.1, 8.1, or higher level on all
    supported platforms

    Initial Impact:
    Middle

    Additional Keywords:
    drive append mode dismount
