Error description

  • The Db2 fault monitor coordinator daemon (db2fmcd) fails to
start Db2 instances at system boot time even if db2iauto is set
to "on" by running the following command:

    db2iauto -on <instname>

The db2iauto command updates the instance's DB2AUTOSTART value
to YES in the profile registry, i.e. the value "YES" is returned
    by the following db2set command:

    $ db2set -i <instname> DB2AUTOSTART
    YES

Despite this, the db2fmcd process fails to pick up the
DB2AUTOSTART value and does not start the instance at boot time
    as a result.

Local fix

  • Please start the instance by using the Db2fault monitor daemon
(db2fmd) instead of the Db2 fault monitor coordinator daemon
    (db2fmcd).

    For example:
    1. Install fault monitor coordinator daemon to start at boot.
(db2fmcd is responsible to start db2fmd at boot.)
    # <db2_install_path>/bin/db2fmcu -u -p
    <db2_install_path>/bin/db2fmcd
    ex:
    # /opt/ibm/db2/V11.1/bin/db2fmcu -u -p
    /opt/ibm/db2/V11.1/bin/db2fmcd

    2. Turn on the fault monitor for the instance.
    # <db2_install_path>/bin/db2fm -i <instance_name> -f on
    ex:
    # /opt/ibm/db2/V11.1/bin/db2fm -i db2inst1 -f on

    3. Activate the fault monitor service for the instance.
    # <db2_install_path>/bin/db2fm -i <instance_name> -U
    ex:
    # /opt/ibm/db2/V11.1/bin/db2fm -i db2inst1 -U

Following these instructions allows users to start the Db2
instance at system boot if the instance was not stopped prior to
    restarting the system.
