IT21172: DEDUPLICATION CACHE NOT RESTORED AUTOMATICALLY IN CASE OF FILE INTEGRITY ERROR

Error description

  • Under certain circumstances
    (in case of an unrecoverable database file corruption)
    the IBM Spectrum Protect client can report the following error:
    
    ANS0361I DIAG: dbOpen(): Error opening database
    '/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/TSMDEDUPDB_CLIENT_CLIENTTST.DB',
    openBtDb(): rc=228 .
    
    and as result it does not  automatically recreate the
    deduplication cache db.
    The backup then continues without the deduplication feature

Local fix

  • Delete the corrupted deduplication cache db and run a new backup
    for creating a new one.

Problem conclusion

  • Background: a customer expects the deduplication cache file to
    be restored automatically by Spectrum Protect client in case of
    an unrecoverable corruption.
    Problem: the automatic database restoration is not happening for
    all corruption types. The backup-archive client issues an DIAG
    error message into the log file at each start.
    Fix: the algorithm has been changed in order to support all
    possible cases of corruption and automatically restore the
    database.
