IT21136: WRITE FAILURES WHEN WRITING DATA TO DIRECTORY CONTAINER STORAGE POOL

Error description

  • A write failure may occur during an attempted write to a
    directory container storage pool if one or more of the storage
    pool directories is full or nearly full.  When the write failure
    occurs, the dsmffdc.log file contain the following error
    indicating a problem writing to a specific container:
    
       [ FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR ]: (sdio.c:1923) Write retries
       exhausted for file
       /container_pool/dir04/4f/0000000000004f5f.dcf, rc 2370
    
    The output from the QUERY STGPOOLDIR F=D command will likely
    show little to no available free space in the storage pool
    directory (filesystem/drive) on which the containers referenced
    in the errors above reside:

Local fix

  • Update the access for the storage pool directory to read/only to
    prevent further write attempts to the directory until a fix can
    be applied.
