Error description

  • In a cross-protect environment, running PROTECT STGPOOL
processes on both servers at the same time can create orphaned
extents in the container storage pools. Cross-protect
    environment is defined as follows:
SERVERA: The source server in a replication configuration to
SERVERB, and a target server in a replication configuration to
    SERVERB.
SERVERB: The target server in a replication configuration to
SERVERA, and a source server in a replication configuration to
    SERVERA.

    Versions Affected:
All supported IBM Spectrum Protect versions.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
Review the activity log on both servers to determine if there
are time periods when PROTECT STGPOOL was running on both
servers. The following DB2 SQL can be run to determine if there
are orphaned extents in the container pool:
    db2 connect to tsmdb1
    db2 set schema tsmdb1
    db2 "select poolname,poolid from ss_pools"
db2 "select count from sd_chunk_locations sdcl where
sdcl.poolid=<POOLID> and sdcl.refcount!=0 and not exists (select
    1 from sd_recon_order sdro where sdro.chunkid=sdcl.chunkid) and
exists (select 1 from sd_replicated_chunks sdrc where
    sdrc.poolid=sdcl.poolid and sdrc.chunkid=sdcl.chunkid and
sdrc.flags=0 and sdrc.chunktype=0) for read only with ur"

Replace <POOLID> with the appropriate poolid from the first
select command. If the count returned is non-zeroed, this APAR
    applies.

    Initial Impact:
    Medium

    Additional Keywords:
    TSM 140192 141853

Local fix

  • Avoid running PROTECT STGPOOL processes at the same time on both
     servers.
Engage IBM Spectrum Protect support to help with cleaning up the
    orphaned extents.
