Error description

  • At 7.1.6.x Server, if running replication and/or protect
stgpool, on the target node, the following select statement will
    be run:
SELECT SUM( CAST( sdac.length as bigint ) ) FROM
    TSMDB1.sd_replicated_chunks sdrc LEFT JOIN TSMDB1.sd_recon_order
    sdro ON ( sdrc.chunkid=sdro.chunkid ) LEFT JOIN
    TSMDB1.sd_all_chunks sdac ON ( sdrc.chunkid=sdac.chunkid ) WHERE
sdrc.poolid=? AND sdro.chunkid IS NULL AND sdac.chunkid IS NOT
    NULL AND ( BITAND(sdrc.flags, 2) = 2) FOR READ ONLY WITH UR
Depending on the table sizes and amount of free space present in
the database, this select statement can result in the exhaustion
of available database space. Once all database space is
exhausted, this can result in a crash of the IBM Spectrum
Protect server. For example, the following message may be
    reported prior to the crash:
    02/03/2017 20:54:48 ANR0175E tbrsql.c(1658): Space
exhausted for one or more of the following: DB, LOG, or
    instance directory. (SESSION: 3)

Prior to the crash the database space consumed is within the
TEMPSPACE1 tablespace. After the crash the used space is
released and the server can be restarted, however, the select
statement will be run again, which may lead to another crash.
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
7.1.6.x and higher IBM Spectrum Protect Server - All Platforms
8.1.0.0 and higher IBM Spectrum Protect Server - All Platforms
    Initial Impact: Medium
Additional Keywords: repl target protect temp tempspace

Local fix

  • Force the application handle against the offending select
    statement:
    db2 connect to tsmdb1
    db2 "select application_handle, substr( stmt_text, 1, 512) as
    stmt_text from sysibmadm.mon_current_sql where elapsed_time_sec
    > 1200"
Review the output from above. Match the offending select
statement and take note of the application handle id.
db2 "force application (<application handle id from the
    problematic select>)"
    e.g. - db2 "force application ( 1059 )"
May need to script the above commands as the offending select
will run at least once a day.
