Error description

  • When using IBM Spectrum Protect Server version 6.3.6.x, 7.1.6.x
    or higher,
    or 8.1.x or higher, certain restore or retrieve operations are
    unsuccessful.
    
    The following error message is displayed on the Backup-Archive
    Client and written to the dsmerror.log file:
    
     ANS4035W File '<filename>' currently unavailable on server.
    
    A corresponding message is written to the IBM Spectrum Protect
    Server activity log:
    
     ANE4035W (Session: <nnn>, Node: <nodename>)  File '<filename>'
              currently unavailable on server.  (SESSION: <nnn>)
    
    This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are
    true:
    
     * The IBM Spectrum Protect Server version is 6.3.6.x or higher,
       7.1.6.x or higher, or 8.1.x.x or higher
    
     * The Backup-Archive Client version is 6.3.x.x or higher
       fix pack, release, or version
    
     * Client option TAPEPROMPT YES is in effect (Note that
       TAPEPROMPT NO is the default value)
    
     * The data being restored resides in a tape storage pool
    
     * The tape(s) needed for the restore are available to the
          IBM Spectrum Protect Server
    
    This problem is also known to occur with older Backup-Archive
    Client versions. These client versions have reached EOS (End of
    Service) or EOL (End of Life) or are otherwise not officially
    supported with the 6.3, 7.1 or 8.1 server; however blocking
    restore or
    retrieve operations by older client versions is not intended.
    
    When using client version 6.2.x.x or older to restore or
    retrieve data from tape on IBM Spectrum Protect Server version
    6.3.6.x or higher, 7.1.6.x or higher, or 8.1.x.x or higher,
    the problem can occur when either of the
    following conditions are true:
    
     * The Backup-Archive Client is one of the following versions
       and TAPEPROMPT YES is in effect:
    
        - 6.2.2.0 or higher 6.2.x.x
        - 6.1.4.0 or higher 6.1.x.x
    
     * The Backup-Archive Client is one of the following versions
       and the VERBOSE option is in effect:
    
        - 6.2.1.x or lower 6.2.x.x
        - 6.1.3.x or lower 6.1.x.x
        - 5.5.x.x or lower release or version
    
    Attention: Information regarding EOS, EOL or unsupported client
    and server combinations does not imply any change in the support
    status of these combinations.

Local fix

  • Choose one of the following operational circumventions based on
    the Backup-Archive Client version you are using.
    
     * Use the client option TAPEPROMPT NO if you encounter this
       problem with any of these client versions:
    
       - 6.3.x.x or higher release or version
       - 6.2.2.0 or higher 6.2.x.x
       - 6.1.4.0 or higher 6.1.4.x
    
     * Use the client option QUIET if you encounter this problem
       with any of these client versions:
    
       - 6.2.1.x or lower 6.2.x.x
       - 6.1.3.x or lower 6.1.x.x
       - 5.5.x.x or lower release or version
    
    Attention: Information regarding EOS, EOL or unsupported client
    and server combinations does not imply any change in the support
    status of these combinations.
