IT18838: "REPLICATE NODE" COMMAND WITH PREVIEW=YES OPTION DOES NOT GENERATE ANY PROCESS

Error description

  • A REPLICATE NODE command done with the PREVIEW=YES option does
    not generate any process and it is difficult to track its result
     in the activity log.
    
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    For example, if there is no damage in the stgpool for the node,
    and the command below is started:
    
      REPLICATE NODE NODEXXX   RECOVERDAMAGED=ONLY PREVIEW=YES
    
    No process number is reported as the activity log only shows
    this:
    
        ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: REPLICATE NODE
    NODEXXX RECOVERDAMAGED=ONLY PREVIEW=YES
    
    As there is nothing to recover, no other messages are reported.
    There is no easy way to know if or when this command completed..
    
    
    If the same is done while there are damages, the activity log
    shows:
    
    ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: REPLICATE NODE
     NODEXXX RECOVERDAMAGED=only preview=yes
    ANR0408I Session 112057 started for server TSMSRV (AIX) (Tcp/Ip)
     for replication.
    ANR0409I Session 112057 ended for server TSMSRV (AIX).
    ANR4029I A scan to identify damaged files is in progress. If
     damaged files are detected, a recovery process will begin after
     the scan is completed.
    ANR0408I Session 112058 started for server TSMSRV (AIX) (Tcp/Ip)
     for replication.
    ANR3649I A scan to identify damaged files was initiated at
     10:22:11.
    ANR4028I A scan for damaged files is in progress. Processed 1
     damaged file(s).
    ANR3650I A scan to identify damaged files was completed at
     10:22:12.
    ANR4910I A replication recovery preview was completed for the
     following nodes: NODEXXX. Nodes to be recovered: 1. Filespaces
     to be recovered: 1. Files to be recovered: 24. Bytes to be
     recovered: 24,600 KB. Estimated run time: 0 Days, 0 Hours, 1
     Minutes.
    ANR0409I Session 112058 ended for server TSMSRV (AIX).
    
    That is easier to track but still not process number.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
     All Server platforms at level 6.3 ,  7.1 or 8.1

Local fix

  • Use the WAIT=YES option to better track the end of the REPLICATE
     NODE / PREVIEW command
