IT18833: SESSION IS NOT CLOSED ON SERVER IF A LAN-FREE RESTORE VIA SHAREDMEM IS UNSUCCESSFUL

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If a restore operation  being performed via LAN-free through
    shared memory communication is unsuccessful, the  session with
    the storage agent  is not closed and any volumes used by the
    restore remain mounted by that session.
    
    Any subsequent attempt to repeat the failed restore operation
    will hang  waiting on the volume until the communication timeout
    value for the original session is reached.
    
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    The issue occurs only when using sharedmem communication among
    client, storage agent and server.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage
    Manager client v6.3, v7.1 and v8.1 on all platforms
    
    Initial Impact: Low
    
    Additional Keywords: sharedmem session hung storage agent

Local fix

  • Local Fix:  Use tcpip communication among client, storage agent
    and server.
