Error description

  • Using client 7.1.1.x or higher on Red Hat 7.1 or higher, and
    client 7.1.2.x or higher
on SLES 12 or higher, the version of Linux can be incorrectly
    gathered and thus
"query node node_name f=d" on server will not reflect it
    correctly.

For example the client is installed on:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.3 (Maipo)

Client service trace on the client reports:

    13.12.2016 14:26:25.450 [028473] [152938304] : cucommon.cpp
(3951): cuSignOnEnhanced(), Setting Role to Server for LNX:Red
    Hat
    Enterprise Linux Server

    and:
"query node node_name f=d" on server reports:

Client OS Name: LNX:Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server

    instead of:

Client OS Name: LNX:Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.3
    (Maipo)

    IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected:
Client 7.1.1.x and higher and 8.1.x and higher on RHEL 7.1 and
    higher
Client 7.1.2.x and higher and 8.1.x and higher on SLES 12 and
    higher

    Initial Impact: Low

Additional Keywords: TSM IBM Spectrum Protect query node
    release

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM Spectrum Protect client was not optimized to get the
Linux distribution name from new format of /etc/os-release file
which is a standard for new Linux distributions based on
systemd. The algorithm of getting distribution name was improved
to be able to correctly extract the distribution name.
