IT18194: "PROTECT STGPOOL" USING THE PURGEDATA OPTION ENDS WITH INCORRECT STATUS OF "SUCCESS" AFTER AN ERROR DURING PROCESSING.

APAR status

Error description

  • When running PROTECT STGPOOL using a PURGEDATA option the
    process can end with a status of success when there are error
    messages in the log showing that one or more of the sessions
    failed.
    
    The purpose of this APAR is to address the incorrect SUCCESS
    status indicated in the process completion message for the
    PROTECT STGPOOL. The specific root error that led to the process
    actually failing needs to be diagnosed. In this example we saw
    the following errors:-
    
    
    ANR2017I Administrator  ADMIN issued command: PROTECT STGPOOL
    container01 purgedata=all  (SESSION: 1637)
    
    During the processing we see this error:-
    
    ANR0171I tbrsql.c(1658): Error detected on 74:2, database  in
    evaluation mode. (SESSION: 1637, PROCESS: 7)
    ANR0106E sdrepl.c(7988): Unexpected error 4522 fetching row in
    table "SD.Chunk.Locations". (SESSION: 1637, PROCESS: 7)
    ANR1880W Server transaction was canceled because of a
    conflicting lock on table SD_REPLICATED_CHUNKS.(SESSION: 1637,
    PROCESS: 7)
    ANR0171I dbiconn.c(2169): Error detected on 0:74, database in
    evaluation mode. (SESSION: 1637, PROCESS: 7)
    ANR0162W Supplemental database diagnostic information:
    -1:08003:-99999 ([IBM][CLI Driver] CLI0106E  Connection is
    closed. SQLSTATE=08003). (SESSION: 1637, PROCESS: 7)
    
    No failures are shown in the process summary:-

    Note - the above errors are not specific to this problem - the
    process could have failed with different errors.
    
    
    The PROTECT STGPOOL should have ended with a status of FAILURE
