IT17294: SERVER DOES NOT PRUNE THE ACTIVITY LOG AND SUMMARY TABLE

Error description

  • Following an upgrade to 7.1.3 or above the automatic pruning of
    the activity log and summary table may not take place.   The
    pruning should take place at around midnight - There are no
    messages  ANR2102I/ANR2103I within the activity log.   Altering
    the summaryretention or actlogretention does not prevent this
    problem.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    The problem is caused by the presence of the date
    '1956-09-05-00.00.00.000000'  in the summary table.  In this
    case this was for a 'TAPE MOUNT'
    
    This problem was introduced in server version 7.1.3.000 with the
    fix for APAR IT03981 which added checks to see if there were
    records in the activity summary log that were old enough to be
    pruned, but it did not take into account the possibility that
    some of the records might be logged with
    the'1956-09-05-00.00.00.000000' date.
    
    You can check if these dates exist using the following command:-
    
    db2 "select start_time from tsmdb1.activity_summary order by
    start_time fetch first row only"

Local fix

  • Delete the entries from the summary table:-
    
    db2 connect to tsmdb1
    db2 "delete from tsmdb1.activity_summary where
    start_time='1956-09-05-00.00.00.000000'"
    db2 terminate
