Error description

  • If a tape volume has some data blocks written with devclass
    option "LBPROTECT=READWRITE" or "LBPROTECT=WRITEONLY",
all other blocks written after the last ones will need to be
written with the same "LBPROTECT" value.
If the administrator updates the devclass option to
"LBPROTECT=NO", a new empty tape will be written without the
"LBPROTECT", but filling "LBPROTECT" tapes, will be filled with
the LBPROTECT option active, even if the devclass is now set to
    "LBPROTECT=NO".
    That is the normal behavior.

This APAR is created because mixed LBPROTECT and non LBPROTECT
data blocks may exist on same tape if the administrator updated
the option from "READWRITE" or "WRITEONLY" to "NO" then back to
"READWRITE" or "WRITEONLY" during the lifetime of a filling
    tape.
Mixed blocks types should not be allowed on the same volume,
otherwise reading the mixed block(s) will show an error like:

Local fix

  • Change devclass option "LBPROTECT to NO", that will allow server
to read the affected tapes, and move then onto other tapes
where the mixed blocks types will not exist.
The MOVE DATA command can be performed on same stgpool/devclass,
(with LBPROTECT not active). Or to another stgpool/devclass
where LBPROTECT is active if needed.
