IT16978: AUDIT VOL FIX=YES EXECUTION CAN LEAD TO A FULL ACTIVE LOG CONDITION

Error description

  • Executing the AUDIT VOL with FIX=YES, the Active Log can become
    full when this involves multiple objects
    to delete in a single transaction.
    
    
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    When grouped objects like VM backups are deleted, it will cause
    all dependent objects to be deleted as well.
    This means that any full or incremental backup image depending
    on the objects being deleted will also be removed.
    This can represent a lot of data to delete in a single
    transaction which would use lots of log space, which can lead to
    a full active log and the server reporting:
    
    "ANR0130E bfdedup.c(9678): Server LOG space exhausted"

Local fix

  • As alternative, use AUDIT VOL with FIX=NO and MOVE DATA.
    Look for the error message during the AUDIT VOLUME to determine
    why it was marked damaged.
    Do not continue if you see ANR4895E messages in the server
    activity log.
    Use DELETE VOLUME if the data is damaged and cannot be moved.
    If DELETE VOLUME is required, then repair the invalid links
    using the instructions in the  following technote part 3 and 4.
