Error description

  • If there are data extents that are marked damaged, an audit
container process might fail with the following error:

ANR4299I AUDIT CONTAINER: Internal extent repair process is
    currently running.

The problem occurs due to a background repair process that has
been granted exclusive access to the audit table. The audit
container process requires exclusive access to this table as
well and if the repair is long running, it can cause the audit
process to fail. This is a large window where the repair thread
wakes and runs every 30 seconds. It can run upwards of 15-30
seconds while interrogating the audit table for extents that
need to be finalized in the repair process. The delay will be
more noticeable as more entries are added to the audit table.
The more entries in the damage table the more likely you are to
hit this apar. Due to the large timing window the Audit
Container command is issued at the same time as the repair
thread starting to execute the SQL.

The QUERY DAMAGED command can be used to determine if damaged
extents already exist prior to running the AUDIT CONTAINER
    command.

Additional Keywords: TSM IBM Spectrum Protect

Local fix

  • Issue the Audit Container command repeatedly every 3-4 seconds
up to a few minutes, till you catch a window in which the Audit
    Container can be executed.
