IT14939: SERVER UPGRADE FROM 6.X TO 7.X FAILS TO APPLY DB2 LICENSE.

Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect server upgrade from version 6.x to 7.x,
    runs successfully, but when attempting to start the server in
    the foreground the following messages are reported:
    ANR0151W Database manager fails to start. For more information
             about the failure, issue the db2start command.
    ANR0171I dbiconn.c(1844): Error detected on 0:1, database in
             evaluation mode.
    ANR0162W Supplemental database diagnostic information:
             -1:08001:-1032 ([IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1032N  No start
             database manager command was issued.  SQLSTATE=57019
    The db2start command reports the following message:
    03/24/2016 22:32:13     0   0   SQL8000N  DB2START processing
    failed; a valid product license was not found. If you have
    licensed this product, ensure the license key is properly
    registered. You can register the license using the db2licm
    command. The license key can be obtained from your licensed
    product CD. SQL1032N  No start database manager command was
    issued.  SQLSTATE=57019
    The Installation Manager performs a check that is incorrectly
    set to false, and this check determines whether to register the
    db2 license.

Local fix

  • Manually apply the DB2 license using the db2licm command as
    follows:
    1. From directory where the installation package is unpacked:
       # cd repository/native
    2. Unzip the db2 install file that is prefixed with:
       com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2
       For example AIX:
         com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.aix.ppc64_10.5.700.375.zip
       For example  Linux:
         com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.linux.x86_64_10.5.500.107.zip
    3. Change to directory where the license file is located:
        # cd ese/db2/license/
    4. As the instance owner use the DB2 command db2licm on license
       file db2ese.lic:
       /Instance directory path/sqllib/adm/db2licm -a db2ese.lic
