Error description
The Library Client (LC) crashes when there are no available tape mount points on the Library Manager (LM). Three conditions need to be in effect: 1) A FILE Device Class as the input source storage pool 2) During a move operation from the FILE Device Class storage pool (i.e. MOVE DATA, Migration, or Reclamation) 3) Output destination needs to be to a SHARED library (LM with no mount points available) Core stacks that have been reported: Segmentation fault in AcquireLatchSpecific at 0x1002c57e4 ($t902) 0x1002c57e4 (AcquireLatchSpecific+0x44) 801f0000 lwz r0,0x0(r31) (dbx) where AcquireLatchSpecific(0x110ba8df0, 0x1, 0x110b999c8, 0x11eae7b50) at 0x1002c57e4 PvrGetDevClassLatches(??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x1003e6578 pvrReleaseMountPoint(??, ??) at 0x10041d9dc AsSWRelOneMP(??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x10086b410 AsSWReleaseAllMPs@AF35_13(??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x100871408 AsSWReleaseAllMPs(??) at 0x10086b0ac AsSetupSWCopy(??) at 0x100484bb0 ssReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x100acdb64 AfReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x1007ac464 BfReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x1007fda38 afmove.MoveBatch(??) at 0x100ab2ee8 afmove.MoveVolume(??) at 0x100aac480 AfMoveVolume(??) at 0x100aab210 MigrOnsiteVols(??) at 0x100af5a74 AfMigrVolumeThread(??) at 0x100af48fc StartThread(??) at 0x10000c260 (dbx) quit or IOT/Abort trap in pthread_kill at 0x900000000557f94 ($t731811) 0x900000000557f94 (pthread_kill+0xd4) e8410028 ld r2,0x28(r1) (dbx) where pthread_kill(??, ??) at 0x900000000557f94 _p_raise(??) at 0x9000000005577e4 raise.raise(??) at 0x900000000039468 abort() at 0x900000000055ae4 PsAbortServer(??) at 0x1000120a0 pkLogicAbort(??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x10000b9a4 pvrReleaseMountPoint(??, ??) at 0x10041dc00 AsSWRelOneMP(??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x10086b410 AsSWReleaseAllMPs@AF35_13(??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x100871408 AsSWReleaseAllMPs(??) at 0x10086b0ac AsSetupSWCopy(??) at 0x100484bb0 ssReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x100acdb64 AfReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x1007ac464 BfReconstruct(??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??, ??) at 0x1007fda38 afmove.MoveBatch(??) at 0x100ab2ee8 afmove.MoveVolume(??) at 0x100aac480 AfMoveVolume(??) at 0x100aab210 MigrOnsiteVols(??) at 0x100af5a74 AfMigrVolumeThread(??) at 0x100af48fc StartThread(??) at 0x10000c260 (dbx) Additional Keywords: Dedup pool deduplication STG core dump Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: 6.3.5.0, 7.1.0 and above IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: 7.1.3.0 and above
Local fix
Attempt to reduce LC mount requests to prevent the LM from having no drives available. Example: Schedule move operations such as Migration and Reclamation on LCs when there is reduced tape drive activity on the LM to make sure drives are available.
