Error description

  • The DB2 installation process will extract executable files to
the /tmp filesystem and, as such, requires that the /tmp
filesystem not be mounted with the 'noexec' parameter. Before
performing the installation, the db2setup script will attempt to
verify that the /tmp filesystem is not mounted with the 'noexec'
parameter. A problem with the db2setup script was identified
that could potentially cause installation failures to occur if
any filesystems whose name contains the "/tmp" string are
mounted with the 'noexec' parameter. For example, the output
from the 'mount' command below shows 2 filesystems whose names
    contain the "/tmp" string:

       /dev/mapper/vg00-lvol1 on /tmp type ext4 (rw)
       /dev/mapper/vg00-lvol2 on /var/tmp type ext4 (rw,noexec)

As the /tmp filesystem is not mounted with the 'noexec'
parameter, we would expect that the db2setup script would
complete successfully. However, because another filesystem
whose name contains the "/tmp" string is currently mounted with
the 'noexec' parameter, the db2setup script will fail and
    generate the following error:

       $ /tmp/db2tmp/ese/db2setup -r /tmp/db2tmp/db2resp.tmp -f
       sysreq -l ../logs/native/tsm_logs/db2_install.log
DBI20043E DB2 failed to install because of restrictive
permission settings on the temporary directory /tmp

The problem with the db2setup script is documented in DB2 APAR

Local fix

  • Prior to performing installation, any filesystems mounted with
the 'noexec' parameter whose names contain the "/tmp" string
should be temporarily unmounted or remounted without the
'noexec' parameter until after the installation has completed.
