APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• LABEL LIBVOL may fail when the tape cartridge is set at the
  slot at where the cleaner cartridge was placed before.  For
  example, when LABEL LIBVOL is executed with specifying
  labelsource=vollist vollist=vol_label, it may fail with
  ANR8946W.
  
  ANR8946W There were more labels in the vollist than volumes
  available to label.
  
  Here is steps to recreate the issue:
  [1] Do CHECKIN LIBV the cleaner cartridge at slot N.
  [2] Do CHECKOUT LIBV the cleaner, but leave the cleaner
  cartridge in the slot N because the library has no Imp/Exp
  ports.
  [3] Do CHECKIN LIBV some tape cartridges in other slots than
  slot N.
  [4] Manually remove the cleaner cartridge, then insert the tape
  cartridge into slot N.
  [5] Do LABEL LIBV labelsource=vollist vollist=vol_label
  checkin=private or scratch
  
  At step [5], it is expected that the tape cartridge at slot N
  could be labeled and checkin, but actually it failed with
  ANR8946W.
  
  This issue can occur because the server does not correctly
  update status of the slot if it is once set as Cleaner.  This
  problem will also occur in both cases of labelsource=volrange
  and labesource=barcode.
  At step [5], status of slot N is still Cleaner in output of
  SHOW SLOTS:

  Trace with PVR MMS shows the problem:

Local fix

• Run AUDIT LIBRARY with REFRESHSTATE=Yes, or restart the server,
  after  the tape cartridge is set at the slot where cleaner was
  placed before.
