    (WinNT) -
    error on output storage device.

    The problem is specific to Windows and specific to some
    filesystems (such as Hitachi HCP) that are *case sensitive*.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:

    Tivoli Storage Manager is case tolerant on Windows and the
    problem is the filesystem (for example HCP) that have case
    sensitive feature enabled.

    The problem revolves around the output from the Windows function
    call GetFileAttributesEx which it is used to determine the size
    of the file.

    This is the abstract from a PVR MMS trace:

    13:06:37.482 [37][psfile.c][863][psGetFileSize]:Obtaining size
    of \\xx.xx.xx.xx\TEST_TSM\DATA\000CE6AA.BFS
    13:06:37.485 [37][psfile.c][921][psGetFileSize]:LastErr=2,
    rc=1116 getting file size for
    \\xx.xx.xx.xx\TEST_TSM\DATA\000CE6AA.BFS.            <<
    LastErr=2 translates to ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

    Then when Tivoli Storage Manager open the file later, because it
    is assumed to be a zero size, an incorrect flag is used to open
    the file volume, which will "create" a new file instead of open
    existing volume.

    13:06:37.485 [37][pspvrfio.c][217][PvrFioOpen]:Open attempt for
    file \\xx.xx.xx.xx\TEST_TSM\DATA\000CE6AA.BFS has the following
    settings: accessMode=1, createFlag=1, noBuffering=1, directIO=1
    13:06:37.544 [37][pspvrfio.c][317][PvrFioOpen]:File
    \\xx.xx.xx.xx\TEST_TSM\DATA\000CE6AA.BFS was opened with handle

Local fix

  • Disable the case sensitivity feature on the filesystem (contact
    the storage provider for the storage subsystem where the
    filesystem is residing).
