APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
After a Celerra NAS 'filespace' or 'path' is renamed in VIRTULASFSMAPPING configuration on the Tivoli Storage Manager Server, using "UPDATE VIRTUALFSMAPPING", the NAS data cannot be restored to the EMC Celerra filer. During restore, Tivoli Storage Manager provides the Celerra filer with the current filesystem name as it exists in the Tivoli Storage Manager database. The EMC Celerra filer will check the original file system name during restore. If the name provided by Tivoli Storage Manager does not match the original file system name, nothing is restored, no errors are reported in the activity log, and the "restore node" or "restore nas" process reports as being sucessful. So, "UPDATE VIRTUALFSMAPPING" should be prohibited for NAS nodes associated with EMC Celerra filers. This is similar to APAR IC96936: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IC96936 which addressed the 'rename filespace' command. Tivoli Storage Manager Server Versions Affected: 6.3.x and 7.1.x on all supported platforms Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: TSM emc celerra ndmp restore IC96936 virtualfs virtualfsmapping
Local fix
Update the virtual filespace mapping with the original values for filespace and path. If the original values for the filespace and path in the virtual filespace definition are not available contact support."
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Tivoli Storage Manager server users of NDMP backup of * * Celerra and VNX file servers. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * See Error Description. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply fixing level when available. This problem is currently * * projected to be fixed in levels 7.1.5 and 6.3.6. Note that * * this is subject to change at the discretion of IBM. * **************************************************************** If you cannot restore your Celerra or VNX NAS data because of changes to the virtual file space mapping, use the following procedure to recover your data: 1. Identify the original file system and path for the data when it was backed up. If you cannot identify the original file system and path, contact IBM Support. 2. Save the current settings for the file system and path of the virtual file space mapping. 3. Update the virtual file space mapping with the original file system and path settings by specifying the FORCE=YES parameter of the UPDATE VIRTUALFSMAPPING command. 4. Recover the data. 5. Update the virtual file space mapping with the current file system and path settings that were saved in step 2 by specifying the FORCE=YES parameter of the UPDATE VIRTUALFSMAPPING
Problem conclusion
This problem was fixed. Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Linux, and Windows.
