APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the Algorithm First-Alive on a DNS server is configured
and the DNS server responds to a query with an additional RR
(resource record) DataPower may disregard the Answer record
    response

Local fix

  • Consider a different load balance algorithm or configure the
DNS server to no longer respond with additional RR.

Problem summary

  • Affected is DataPower use of DNS in configurations using DNS
name resolution, with DNS using first-alive algorithm.

When DataPower obtains a DNS response containing a zero-length
response record, it will fail to parse the response, failing the
corresponding hostname resolution. An example of such DNS
responses are ones containing an empty EDNS0 extension record.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix
