Error description

  • In the read tape label operation for a volume loaded in a tape
drive that is defined as VOLSAFE device class, the Tivoli Storag
Manager Server attempts to query the drive for Logical Block
Protection (LBP). Tape drives with VOLSAFE device class are
identical to the devices that have device class ECARTRIDGE,
especially for Oracle StorageTek tape drives. These devices are
capable of the Logical Block Protection function. When these
devices are defined to the VOLSAFE device class the Logical
Block Protection function is disabled. The QUERYLBP should not
be issued to devices that are defined as the VOLSAFE device
class. This message ANR8302E should not be reported:
    ANR8302E I/O error on drive DRIVE1 (/dev/mt01) with volume
             VOLXXXX (OP=QUERYLBP, Error Number=22, CC=207, rc = 1,
             KEY= FF, ASC=FF, ASCQ= FF, SENSE=**NONE**,
Description=Device is not in a state capable of
performing request). Refer to the Tivoli Storage
Manager documentation on I/O error code descriptions.
The QUERYLBP ioctl is used to verify if the current environment
supports Logical Block Protection, and should only be issued whe
    the device class supports LBP.
    Initial Impact: LOW
    .
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
The Logical block protection function affects Tivoli Storage
Manager Server versions 6.3.3, 7.1.0, and higher versions.
    .

Local fix

  • The messages will not affect the Tivoli Storage Manager Server
operations and can be ignored until the server can be upgraded.
