Error description

  • Per Tivoli Storage Manager documentation, only volumes in
primary storage pools can be updated with ACCESS=DESTROYED. An
error message is returned if user tries to update a copy storage
pool volume to DESTROYED. For example,
ANR2017I Administrator CJ issued command: UPDATE VOLUME xxxx
    access=destroyed  (SESSION: 124)
ANR2116E UPDATE VOLUME: Access mode for volume xxxx cannot be
changed to "destroyed" - volume does not belong to a primary
    storage pool. (SESSION: 124)
ANR2212I UPDATE VOLUME: No volumes updated. (SESSION: 124)

Despite the error message returned and the volume access
unchanged, all the files on the volume are marked as damaged.
This is incorrect and will be fixed.

If a copy storage pool volume is damaged/destroyed and need to
be updated, use server command AUDIT VOLUME.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager server version 7.1.1 on all platforms

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
    1. Run SHOW DAMAGED prior to running the UPDATE VOLUME command.
    No damaged files are reported.
    2. Run UPDATE VOLUME ACCESS=DESTROYED on a copy storage pool
volume. Error message ANR2116E is issued and the volume access
    mode is unchanged.
    3. Run SHOW DAMAGED again, there will be damaged files reported.

    Initial Impact:
    Low

    Additional Keywords:
    TSM delete vol

Local fix

  • Use server command AUDIT VOLUME to mark files in copy storage
    pool volumes as damaged.
If copy pool volumes are accidentally updated to destroyed,
AUDIT VOLUME can also be used to reset the files to undamaged.
