Error description

  • A long load time (multiple hours) of the Backup-Archive Client's
    Retrieve window can occur within environments that contain a
    large number of archive objects, and multiple rows have a NULL
    value in the CLNTTYPE column with the table
    TSMDB1.ARCHDESC_NAMEVIEW.  The select statement that is
    currently run against the table collects the results one row at
    a time, and each statement takes minutes to complete.  The
    length of time required to retrieve all of the matching rows is
    multiplied by the number of rows in the table that meet the
    search criteria.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Server versions 6.2, 6.3 and 7.1 on all
    platforms

    A DBSTMT trace on the TSM Server can show results similar to the
    following

    Note the 7 minutes required for the server to return the results
    in this example. This query is executed for each row of archived
    data, so poor performance occurs when there are rows with NULL
    value of column "CLNTTYPE".

  • Use the command line (dsmc query archive / dsmc retrieve) to
    query and retrieve the archive data from the client
