APAR status

Error description

  • When performing a Tivoli Storage Manager Server database backup
    to a FILE type device class, the file system becomes full and
    the database backup operation may terminate without removing all
    backup volumes involved. The activity log will report the
    following message:
    ANR8785E Out-of-space in file system for FILE volume
             /tsmdbbackup/N.DBV. (SESSION: 12988, PROCESS: 143)
    The issue happens when the Server is receiving the backup data,
    and the client API sends a confirmation request verb. The Server
    responds with ConfirmResp=NO and the API function dsmSendData()
    returns 157 to DB2.
    The return code 157 can be seen in the db2diag in this message:

Local fix

  • Manually cleanup by checking the activity log for when the
    database backup started and failed. Check the FILE storage pool
    directories associated with the database backup, and remove any
    volumes created by the failed backup operation.
