Error description

  • A database restore may fail with
ANR4593E Restore database unable to find eligible candidate to
    use for processing.
ANR4602E No volumes found for TODATE 03/02/2015 23:59:59.
or restore from the wrong backup sequence if the volume history
    file gets manipulated.

E.g. if you save the file from a Windows editor, CTRL-M ("^M",
carriage return) characters can be appended to each line which
    results in the ANR4593E message.

Another symptom can be a change to the casing of a database
    backup description, e.g. from
    "Operation Date/Time:"
    to
    "Operation date/Time:"

Tracing the restore with traceflag ICBACK will report the
    following for the casing symptom:
    17:36:29.923
    [0][icvolhst.c][8207][AssignRestoreStanzaFromVolHist]:doThisLine
    =0, cmpResult=-1 for line='Operation Date/Time: '
    17:36:29.923
    [0][icvolhst.c][8190][AssignRestoreStanzaFromVolHist]:Read line
    Operation date/Time: 2015/02/19 04:04:31 from volhist file
    volhist.dat.

This can either result in the ANR4593E message or the restore
from an unexpected database backup sequence.

Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: all supported
Customer/L2 Diagnostics: trace with traceflag ICBACK
      Initial Impact: Low
      Additional Keywords: TSM PIT

Local fix

  • remove trailing CTRL-M characters if present and make sure the
following casing is used for "database backup volume" volume
    description:
    Operation Date/Time:
    Volume Type:
    Volume Name:
    Database Backup HLA:
    Backup Series:
    Backup Op:
    Volume Seq:
    Device Class Name:
